E17 Films was founded to promote film making and screening the short film format in 2010, a time when the Borough did not have a cinema. 

Since then, the registered charity has developed a number of filmmaking workshops and projects with local schools and community organisations. Also, the Future Film Focus strand of career workshops where young creatives are brought together with national film, broadcast and media organisations which support training, funding and developing talent in the creative industries. 

Since founding the Walthamstow International Film Festival which has run annually since 2010, E17 Films has worked closely with schools and colleges in Waltham Forest to promote emerging talent into employment in the creative industries by giving young people the opportunity to work on relevant projects to use film production skills. Future plans include a project on the former silent film studios in Walthamstow and anthropological factual films documenting the way we live in contemporary London.

Future Film Focus launched Leytonstone Loves Film 2019 Festival with an event at Leytonstone School for media and film students from all over the borough of Waltham Forest. Bringing together two panels to speak to the audience of around 250 students, the first panel of young speakers from the area talked about how they got into the industry, the second panel from BBC, ITV, Media Trust and Royal Television Society told the students about how to apply for apprenticeships, bursaries, work experience and training in news, factual and documentary programming. 

In 2020, E17 delivered an online set of resources and onscreen festival of films made on the small screen called "Smartphone Life on Film", which is still available on the Future Film Focus YouTube channel.   In 2021, E17Films' Liza Fletcher will introduce Avenue Road Estate:Moving Stories as part of a community screening with Stories and Supper and X7eaven at the Nexus Community Centre.
